Dog Lover vs. Dog Liker

My wife is a major dog lover. There’s little she won’t do to make her two dogs happy. And they reciprocate!

Me…I’m more of a dog “liker,” not a dog “lover.” They must know that and hover around my wife instead. She puts up with most things—their bad habits, scratching and licking in the wrong places, face kisses, dashing around. Not so much with me.

That led me to think about a related idea:

Am I a people “liker” or a people “lover?”

It’s obvious that people come in every description and personality imaginable. They have their “unique” habits and irritating quirks in addition to loving qualities.

What do we usually see first? My guess is mostly the former, not the latter. Sometimes we can bluff our way through, but usually they can tell whether there is genuine interest.

I am going to be seeking to expand my connection to people. To look for ways that extends value and recognition. It will take place within and without my comfort zone.

How about you? Are you a people “liker” or a people “lover?”

What suggestions do you have to move more to the lover side rather than the liker side?

For those of us who claim to be followers of Jesus, this is an important transition to make.
