Becca,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Your points are well said. Suffering can feel like it overpowers our faith at times. It is exhausting to endure. But somehow God meets us in the middle of all of that. No simple answers can be given. It is gripping tightly to what we know to be true of God's care for us and His personal attention to all that we are going through. There is a lot of mystery to this and it's okay to not have answers. Even with all of these challenges, God is still accomplishing His purposes in our life. That is something which offers us hope.

Relationships....you mentioned. I've experienced how they can be a rocky and dangerous terrain. They can also be a meadow or a pleasant place by water. You mentioned cheerleading--I think you were saying that a good friend will be supportive and communicate hope. Trusting God--real life damages this trust and challenges it--i imagine you know this. I hope for many more years, although suffering has also invited me to lose perspective on hope and other matters of faith and heart and mind. Even in your short writings you stir up things to think about. Encouragement and hope are so needed in this life and people who sincerely care. I want to grow in this and to receive this in life. Yet for now....I'm tired.

Dear Pamela,
Thank you for sharing part of your story. You are on the finishing well journey for the Lord although it often feels like it's always uphill with a strong headwind! I like the reminder in Isa. 42:6 where God tells us "I hold you by the hand." You are making progress! I'm confident the Lord will connect you to others who you can encourage and they can encourage you. Stay faithful and hold tight to Jesus who will go before you to make rough places smooth (Isa. 45:2-3).

Thank u for sharing this! As God planned, it is exactly what I needed to hear again! I'm 55 years old with arthritis in every joint & severe fibromyalgia. I live in MI where the humidity in the summer, constant weather changed & cold the seasons has taken away the person I used to be. Yet, God led me to Tucson AZ this past Christmas & I found some of the person I was. Thus presently I am in the middle trying to sell my condo that I still owe money on, sell off furniture & items to decutter, then have a realtor in AZ find me a townhouse or condo (a community-based place$ to live that fit into my limited budget & move for under $5000.00 somehow across the US. When I wake in the morning & im in the most pain Satan has a hay day with my thoughts causing worry. Since I don't know a soul in AZ except for a church I attended & loved at Christmas, it makes it scary! Yet, had had seen me through so many doors that I thought were closing for this move! His promises hold true. The best way for me to remember these are by doing non-joint jarring workouts at the gym (which I get for free) & I listen to upbeat,God focused & promised filled music. It always changes my outlook & the benefit of losing almost 70lbs & 6 sizes in clothes in the last year! I needed to read this reminder again & the promises I know but need to reinforce in my thinking! God is good, I just have keep my eyes open to see Him working!

In reply to <a href="https://finishinglifewell.com/what-do-you-see-in-your-future/#comment-17">Nicholas</a>.

Hi Nicholas,
Thanks for sharing so honestly about the finishing well journey. What I am hoping to convey is that our future can be hopeful and not bleak. We certainly have regrets over mistakes or what might have been, but God's story in our life doesn't end there. I heard a quote the other day that said, "It takes courage not to be discouraged." Finishing well for the Lord will take great courage and grit on our part to stand up in the face of trial, griefs and broken dreams. My prayer is that God will give us new dreams and help us let our old expectations drop away. Not easy at all, but it keeps our heart open to the things God still wants to accomplish in our life.

Hi Bruce. A good article, trying to encourage people (men) that it is better to look forward than backward. If only it was true, but it's not. For many, the best years are gone, and the future on Earth is bleak. The dreams and hopes we had as young people have been crushed right out of us by this cruel life. The best many of us can hope for is to "white-knuckle" it until God finally releases us to go to our true Home.
