1. Moving Mountains in Midlife
Moving Mountains in Midlife
There is genuine hope for your future even though the obstacles confronting you may seem like mountains blocking your way. Do you identify with any of these mountains—past regrets or disappointments, marriage struggles, financial difficulties, health issues, adult children problems or aging parent concerns? If so, it’s important to remember what Jesus told us about our faith in Him: “For truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” We can take comfort knowing that a mustard seed is so small!
How and when Jesus chooses to move our mountain is up to Him. He has a million ways it can happen—most often in unexpected circumstances! We also know He doesn’t want us to lose heart during the time we actively wait for an answer.
There’s no secret formula to it; only gripping tightly to the promises God gives us in His word while we face our mountain head on.
It would be helpful to identify some promises from God that speak hope in your situation. Putting them to memory and repeating them throughout the day can hold you steady while you wait.
Here are two promises to start with:
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from her to there,’ and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you. (Matthew 17:20)
