12. Drink the Cup

Drink the Cup

One of the most daunting mountains to block our way is the high peak that requires us to make a bold and sacrificial action in the name of the Lord. A lifetime of preparation often comes down to a singular decision.

Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, described a supreme example of this. He wrote in his diary what it was like in the room that day for the fifty-six men who signed the declaration: “Do you recollect the pensive and awful silence which pervaded the House when we were called up, one after another, to the table of the President of Congress to subscribe to what was believed by many at that time to be our death warrants?” Even though their signatures meant a death sentence by the British, they were willing to take that step and entrust their lives to God.

We don’t know what our future will hold, but we can be confident the Lord will be there inviting us to trust Him as we drink His cup. He will give us wisdom, courage, boldness and humility to know what we must do when that moment arrives.

The question is, will we accept His invitation to drink the cup when the time comes?

Scripture Review

The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.  (Deuteronomy 31:8)
