Moving Midlife Mountains

Instead of Mount McKinley or Mount Kilimanjaro, the mountains of midlife could be named Mount Regrets, Mount Marriage, Mount Finance, and Mount Health among others.

These loom before us, threatening to block our path. Each represents a unique challenge that confronts many of us on our midlife journey. It can feel like an entire mountain range of dilemmas to deal with!

At the same time we experience these mountains, we are also entering the season of our greatest influence. This may come as a surprise! Our life can have a multi-generational impact on our children and grandchildren not to mention others that God places along our way no matter what obstacles we may be facing.

The mountains are easy to see. What isn’t so easy is recognizing the divine appointments and opportunities of influence that are presented to us.

Without going into much explanation, Jesus told us He was our mountain mover. Part of our midlife experience is discovering how He will fulfill this promise to us:

Truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you (Matt. 17:20).

While we are experiencing Him move our midlife mountains, we are also invited by Him to influence others for His sake. Instead of downshifting into a laid back time of retirement, God is saying “Your season of preparation is completed, now I have big plans for you to accomplish for Me!”

A tiny bit of faith and a new way of looking at the potential of our midlife years can make all the difference.

God is ready to use your life in significant ways in the future. I’m signing up. How about you?
