You’re Not Alone

For most of us, the pressures of daily life seem to overflow the empty spaces of our schedules. We work long hours at the office that give way to demands in our personal life. We get up and do it day after day.

It can become isolating if we’re not careful. At some point we might ask “Am I all alone to fight this battle?”

Hopefully, we can step back and break that cycle by taking the risk to connect with someone on our same journey. We aren’t as alone as we might think. A little initiative can open some important relational doors.

I found this to be true during a family health emergency not long ago.

I sent a prayer request about it to some friends and contacts. I immediately began receiving email responses back saying that they were praying for my family. People that I hadn’t had much contact with expressed similar concern and interest.

There was a larger circle of interested people around me than I realized. It was very encouraging to experience.

Here are some takeaways from that situation:

  1. You’re not alone (even though you may feel like it at times). There are caring people all around if we take time to look.
  2. People appreciate being reached out to (although this is difficult to do). People feel valued when you go to them with a need. They often have a different perspective that can add insight to our problem.
  3. It’s worth taking the initiative to connect with others. You’ll be surprised at how positively they respond. You may find new friendships deepen.
  4. Avoid going it alone. God has created us for relationships. All it takes is one person to travel the journey with us.

God will often often push us out of our comfort zone. That’s a good thing, but not always easy.

Maybe next week would be worth trying something new. Take the initiative to connect with one person. It could be small like a simple hallway conversation or more daring by inviting someone to lunch.

Then watch God show up in some unexpected and encouraging ways.
